Hawaii Winter Baseball is a professional baseball league, featuring minor-league players from Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball (Japan's major leagues). Teams send their prized prospects to Hawaii every winter to help them hone their skills before their upcoming season.
With limited technical resources, Hawaii Winter Baseball looked to UpSpring Media to design and develop a new website for the league. Our talented designers and programmers implemented the following features in the HWB website:
- A content management system, which enables HWB's Sports Information Director to make web updates through and easy to use, Microsoft Word-like interface. For more on our CMS, click here
- Automated processing of multiple XML data feeds from MLB.com (for updated player statistics, nightly box scores etc.)
- A blogging engine, which allows HWB personnel to create and manage multiple blogs. Due to their unpredictable schedules, HWB bloggers are able to write multiple entries, store them in a queue and "schedule" the publish dates for each entry. For more on our Blogging Engine, click here
- Photo albums, which enables a dedicated HWB administrator to create an unlimited amount of albums for an unlimited amount of photos using a user-friendly "drag-and-drop" mechanism. For more on our Photo Albums, click here
- A Japanese HWB website. UpSpring created a separate Japanese version of the HWB website, catering to a large audience in Japan.
Iamhawaii.com is a virtual gathering place for everyone that loves Hawaii. The diverse Iamhawaii.com community consists of island locals, former Hawaii residents, frequent visitors and people who simply appreciate Hawaii's unique lifestyle and culture. The following features were implemented into the Iamhawaii.com website:
- Broadband TV station featuring Hawaii-related programming. Using the latest Flash technology, our New Media team created a top-notch multimedia experience. For more on our Broadband Video application, click here
- Social Networking application. By signing up for Iamhawaii.com, a profile page is automatically created. Members are able to customize their profile pages, build web communities, Iamhawaii friend networks, and find others with similar Hawaii interests. - Web Communities/Groups. UpSpring created a web community application which allows users to create their own communities, start/join discussions, and communicate with other Iamhawaii.com members. For more on our Web Communities application, click here
- Social News application. Iamhawaii.com members are able to submit Hawaii-related news/stories/videos they find interesting anywhere on the Internet. Members are able to interact with each story by posting comments and saving their favorites to their profile.
With two physical store locations and a booming online store, Hanapaa Fishing has become one of the premier fishing retailers in the State. The Hanapaa team noticed that their frequent customers were not only fishing enthusiasts, but also avid divers, hunters and off-road
junkies. As a result, the goal for the Hanapaa Fishing website was to create an online community for Hawaii's outdoorsman. The Hanapaa Fishing website includes the following features:

- A site-wide photo gallery. Hanapaa Fishing members are able to upload their photos to a site-wide photo gallery. Members are able to comment on and rate each photo in the gallery.
